Spring Step

On a gap year? Just finished university? Or taking a career break? Then why not think about serving God in Latin America for four months.

You’ll get to experience the Latin American culture as you live and work as part of a team in a local community. Whether it’s in a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima, Peru, or in a suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina, God can use you in so many different ways.

Spring Step teams typically take part in two practical projects alongside a local church. You will spend seven weeks on each project with a week’s holiday at the end of each one. As well as helping out in a practical way, the team will also help support the church with its ongoing ministry.

In the past, Spring Step teams have been involved in the following:

a basic practical project  sports evangelism  serving the local church  street evangelism  drama, arts and crafts  children’s work  youth ministry living in a local community as a team

Where do the teams go?

In 2013 we hope to send teams to Brazil, Peru, Guatemala, and Nicaragua

How much does Spring Step cost?

Contribution Target: £3,100 (+ £200 project fund)

We encourage each Step applicant to meet a specific financial target for their time away. This amount is a contribution towards the cost of running the Step Programme and your participation in it.

Latin Link remains committed to giving the opportunity of cross-cultural mission to as many people as possible. We do not want the personal financial contribution to be a stumbling block for anyone keen to serve in Latin America; therefore we will always look to support those who may find it genuinely difficult to meet this target.

Once you have raised your individual contributions we challenge each team to raise their own project fund. Any project fund money raised will go straight towards the materials (bricks, paint, wood, cement etc.) that are required for the Step projects you will be working on. We suggest that each team member aims to raise £200.

What does your contribution cover?

orientation before departure*  country specific training and materials  food and accommodation  health clearance and medical advice  return flights project setup and supervision  residential debrief weekend comprehensive insurance cover

*Orientation for 2012 will be held in North London from the 22nd February to the 26th February, and is compulsory.

When do Spring Step teams leave?

If you want to apply for one of our Spring Step teams you need to be available to fly to Latin America at the beginning of March. There is also a compulsory five day residential orientation that you will need to attend prior to this which usually takes place at the end of February.
