Application Deadline: April 30th 2013

Project Outline:

Enjoy the vibrant culture of Argentina as you work on a practical based church project in the town of Tartagal which is located in the Northern Province of Salta.

The Step team will be working with Pastor Carlos Oscar Moya, who along with his family runs a project which focuses on providing support and temporary accommodation for people living on the streets and those struggling with addictions. The project is situated in a very poor area of the town and is in need of much support.

The primary aim of the Step team will be to assist the pastor in helping to construct a kitchen and living area at the project. Both are very much needed as little support over the years has meant that cooking and living quarters have often been fairly make-shift and in the open air. The new areas will allow the project to reach out to more people and to also open up greater opportunities for serving the community.

As well as getting your hands dirty with a bit of practical work you will also be heavily involved in the life and soul of Pastor Moya's church. This will involve helping with some street evangelism, working with children and young people, church visits, performing some music or the occasional drama, playing sport, and even maybe some preaching!

You’ll get to experience the real Latin American culture as you live and work as a team in a local community. This will be a great chance to step out in faith and allow God to use you in a very practical way.

Step contribution:

All applications for a four week project are challenged to raise a personal contribution of £2,150 This amount is to help cover the cost of running the Step Programme and your participation in it.

Latin Link remains committed to giving the opportunity of cross-cultural mission to as many people as possible. We do not want the personal financial contribution to be a stumbling block for anyone keen to serve in Latin America; therefore we will always look to support those who may find it genuinely difficult to meet this target.

Once you have raised your individual contributions we challenge each team to raise their own project fund. Any project fund money raised will go straight towards the necessary materials (bricks, paint, crafts, wood, cement etc.) that are required for the Step project you are working on. We suggest that for this project each team member aims to raise £100. This means the overall contribution target for this project is £2,250.

*There has been a change in the contribution target for this project due to the unexpected high costs we are currently being quoted for travel to and within Argentina this summer.

Latin Link will provide:

weekend orientation before departure*  food and accommodation  country specific training and materials   health clearance and medical advice  comprehensive insurance cover  project setup and supervision  return flights  weekend residential debrief on return

*All successful applicants are expected to attend a weekend orientation course prior to travelling to Latin America. Orientation for 2013 will be held just outside Reading from the 28th - 30th of June.
