Where: Rivas, Nicaragua
Depart between: 8th - 11th July
Return between: 26th - 29th August
Contribution target: £2,150 (+ £150 project fund)
Age: 17 - 35
Application Deadline: April 30th 2013
The team will be based in the city of Rivas, which is located a couple of hours south of Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua. You will be working with the Centro de Esperanza, which is a project that was set up to help support the families and individuals who live and work on the city's rubbish dump.
Based at the project's main drop in centre you will help with some much needed practical work including painting, repairs and general maintenance, gardening, and maybe even a spot of farming!! You will also be involved in helping support the work of the centre. This will include working with the children, running bible studies, through drama and music, home visits, hygiene lessons, supporting the bakery, and with sport. These activities will not only take place at the drop in centre but also on the actual rubbish dump itself.
You’ll get to experience the Nicaraguan culture as you live and work as a team on this amazing project. This will be a great chance to step out in faith and allow God to use you in a very practical way.
All applicants for a seven week project are challenged to raise a personal contribution of £2,150. This amount is to help cover the cost of running the Step Programme and your participation in it.
Latin Link remains committed to giving the opportunity of cross-cultural mission to as many people as possible. We do not want the personal financial contribution to be a stumbling block for anyone keen to serve in Latin America; therefore we will always look to support those who may find it genuinely difficult to meet this target.
Once you have raised your individual contributions we challenge each team to raise their own project fund. Any project fund money raised will go straight towards the necessary materials (bricks, paint, wood, cement etc.) that are required for the Step project you are working on. We suggest that for this project each team member aims to raise £150. Therefore the overall contribution target for this project is £2,300
