Summer Step

Summer Step - Drama and Street Evangelism team to Bolivia

The team spent five weeks working alongside the Christian Unions in Trinidad, Potosí and La Paz/El Alto to reach out to students. As they toured Bolivia they performed dramas, lost their team-mates, had snow (and Christmas!), encouraged CU members, threw cake at each other and preached the Gospel.

Trinidad

“We've been travelling around the local churches performing dramas and sharing about CU’s in the UK and occasionally giving rather powerful testimonies.”

“We've been to a couple of hora felices (happy hours) to play games and sing songs with kids. They seem to love James with his guitar.”

Potosí

“We've been doing loads of street dramas and drama related work. We even visited a Bolivian prison! The inmates were so surprised that we would give up our time to come and do dramas and a short talk for them, they kept asking when we'd come back.

“It's so hard not being able to see the outcome of our work here seeing as we do so much travelling but since we've been here, two people have given their lives to Christ. One came forward for prayer and after telling him we had a youth service on Saturday he didn’t show up. I really think it's time we completely trusted God about these things. God will not abandon him, we don't need to see him to know that he has been saved and he will be ok.”

La Paz / El Alto

“We’ve been with the CCU a lot and have made some really good friends. On our last night with them we had a cultural night which involved a load of Bolivian dancing and us learning rather slowly! We had to contribute, of course, and taught them strip the willow and a little bit of waltzing.”

Highlights

“Sitting in a jeep with the girls on the salt flat tour, talking to any Bolivians in castellano about Jesus and politics, becoming more Gospel orientated and learning the importance of sharing it.”

"Despite being very unsure about what I was embarking on travelling to Bolivia, especially as a leader, God was there right from the start and He was so faithful to me. I saw Him work in amazing ways, within the local churches and on the streets as well as within me and my team. It was such a privilege to go and see what God is doing in Bolivia, and to learn of Him, for example through the selflessness and generosity of the people there. To be thrown into situations where, without God, nothing would have worked, and to have witnessed His divine providence and protection. I have been challenged, humbled, overwhelmed, encouraged and greatly blessed. God is working, in you and me, in the UK, in Latin America. He is inviting us to go, to step out of our comfortable homes, and to see what He is doing. Maybe God is bigger and His plans are greater than any you've ever imagined!” …"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful" Hebrews 10:23
