Latin Link COVID-19 update:

Like countless other organisations around the world, Latin Link is seeing first-hand the impact of coronavirus. Many countries have closed their borders and an increasing number are requiring people to stay at home causing some obvious difficulties to our work.

We would like to assure our supporters that we are working hard to reduce the risk for Latin Link members. We are closely following government advice, and are in regular contact with all members to make sure everyone is well supported and being given up-to-date information.

The measures being taken by each country will have a significant impact on those we are working with. Many have fewer resources to support themselves and have less access to health care than we are used to in Europe. As well as praying for them we are seeking to work out how we can best support them through this difficult period.

You may have already seen that decisions have been made to postpone various Latin Link events planned over the next few months, including our regional Inspire! gatherings and Spanish Worship Nights. Our priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of all members, supporters and beneficiaries. We will continue to update our website as and when new information is available for these events.

Step Teams

2020 Spring Team update: Following advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office we made the decision to bring our Spring Step team back to the UK. All four team members made it back safely on March 22. Please do continue praying for them as they adjust to the unexpected change of plans and put their trust in God's faithfulness.

2020 Summer Teams: All Step team teams planned for the Summer of 2020 have been cancelled. Applicants have been informed and are welcome to reapply for future teams.

Going forward: Due to COVID-19 and its ongoing uncertainty, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring team for next year. Although disappointing, this is the best way to keep our members and the communities with which we work safe.

We very much hope to run our Summer Step teams next year, if it is safe and appropriate to do so - updates will follow in the coming months.

You can still enquire and apply for future teams, and will be updated when opportunities for short-term mission become available.

Stride placements

Following advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, all Striders have been given the option to return to their home country – if travel restrictions allow. Nine Striders have now returned to Britain and Ireland. Those who have chosen to stay in their country of service are being supported by in-country teams and are being updated on government advice. Please pray for all the Striders and their families at this uncertain time.

We have now made the decision to postpone all new Stride placements until January 2021 at the earliest. We will continue monitoring the situation on a case-by-case basis, and will only send Striders when it is safe for them and those who they'll be working closely with.

Latin Link Britain and Ireland office

Usual office opening hours apply. We are fortunate to have facilities available to allow remote working for the majority of our staff, which are now in place. The general phone line is still the best way to contact us, so please do get in touch as usual.

How can you support us?

Thank you for your prayer support; Latin Link's work depends on it. If you would like to continue praying with us for all that's going on in the world, including Latin America, please sign up to our weekly prayer email (ePrayer). Prayer Resources

We've also created a new video series called #GlobalSofa. This provides you with relevant prayer material, brought to you by Latin Link mission workers in Latin America and Europe.

We encourage you to share these interviews with your church community, giving them a window into the rest of the world at this time.

Due to the mass uncertainty, it is expected that many charities will see a decline in financial support. We would kindly ask that you consider maintaining your regular support, or even increasing it to help members continue their invaluable work throughout Latin American and beyond. Our members are a tangible expression of God’s love in many different parts of Latin America, often in communities that have less health and social support. We want to ensure we can resource, support and enable them to do the work God has called them to.

If you would like to make a one-off donation or set up regular giving, please do so at the bottom of this page. Any contribution would be greatly welcomed and extremely valuable.

Many Latin Link mission workers are out on the frontline, caring for the immediate needs of communities hit hard by COVID-19. Their work depends on the generous support of Latin Link supporters.

In order to support and resource their work further, we've developed a new fundraising concept that we'd love you to get involved in.

By taking on an Indoor Expedition, you'll get sponsored to walk, run or cycle the distance of a famous Latin American landmark. It's a really great way to get active while raising vital funds for those worst affected by coronavirus. Learn more by clicking the link below!

In times like these, it’s understandable that many of us feel anxious. But it’s helpful to remember that we have a God who loves us and cares for us, now and always. As Latin Link, we will be praying for all of you; that you may know God’s peace and hand of protection at this time.

"I love you, Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:1-2
