Route 1: Rainforest Trek

Overview

Although it's the shortest of our Indoor Expeditions, this Rainforest Trek is by no means a walk in the park! Travelling on Brazil's historic Gold Trail, you'll traverse a portion of the cobbled jungle route to the iconic Cachoeira do Veado waterfall. Along the way, you may have to get down low to avoid low hanging vines, and clamber over fallen trees. Keep an eye out for the spider monkeys and hummingbirds overhead! Even for the highly experienced explorer, this route would still take most of the day. But thankfully, you'll get to cool off in the natural pools beneath the waterfall at the end (time to get the paddling pool out?).

Distance to travel: 10km

Avg. steps (walking): Between 12,000 - 15,000 steps

To work out accurately how many step you'll need to take, mark out two points 10 metres apart. Count how many steps you take walking from start to finish. Then multiply this amount by 1000 (add three zeros!).

Ideas

  1. This is a great route to do around your house or in your garden. It's long enough to make it a BIG challenge, but you should be able to get it done within a day.
  2. You can use a pedometer to measure your steps, or download a suitable mobile app to measure the distance covered! Don't forget to test it out before you begin, just to make sure it's accurate.
  3. Try adding in a few obstacles along the way; maybe something to step over, something to crawl under. Use what you've got around you to make it feel like a true jungle adventure!
  4. If you've got kids, get them involved! A family adventure through the jungle is a great way to keep fit while raising money! (We even have expedition certificates that you can download once they've completed the trek!)

Before you begin

Before getting started with any of our Indoor Expeditions, make sure you've thought it all through. Here are a few useful tips:

    • It's important that you maintain social distancing, so if you're using your daily exercise allowance, avoid busy areas.
    • Make sure you've got a water bottle with you to avoid dehydrating.
    • Apply sun cream if you're outside, even on a cloudy day!
    • If you're attempting the trek around your house, clear away any trip hazards.
    • Use sensible footwear at all times.
    • Plan your route in advance.
